Irony

It seems strange to me how an organization can be discredited . Recently, a California Highway Patrol manned helicopter found and rescued a man and his three kids from the high Sierra snow while risking their own safety. The news media played up the courage and tenacity of the people who were rescued but failed to give any time to the rescuers. It doesn't seem to be totally fair to me. There are other examples in reality and fiction where the real Heroes remain unknown while the ones who were nothing but victims of circumstances or even their own folly get credit for being the heroes (watch the Clint Eastwood movie Heartbreak Ridge for another example of this).

At the same time, whenever a Cop, or Military member makes an error in judgement or does something that turns out badly, see who is spotlighted for their dastardly deeds (One might want to review the Rodney King story and sequence of events as a strong example of this effect). The news media was well focused on the Iraq conflict until it appeared that the US military began to show progress. Now the war and its original purpose is very much in the background. Enough for now...

Game Results

The Army Navy football game was quite predictable in many ways. It was a clean game with very few penalties; it showed the discipline and dedication of both teams to sportsmanship; and Navy won (which was an indication of the team's potential). There were only two somewhat troubling displays that I did not appreciate: 1) An Army receiver claimed that he was interfered with, and when the refs did not call the suspected foul, the receiver danced and pranced to show his displeasure; and 2) After the game, the "star" Navy running back (and all purpose everything) tried to lead the Navy band in the playing of the school Alma Mater. This may have been deserved based upon his statistics, but was not warranted since almost every other player on the team contributed to his excellent performance by doing their job which enabled his glory.
Otherwise, including the final score, it was an enjoyable game to watch.
